'Black women will never be as beautiful as white women': Ugandan model is targeted by racist trolls after a photo of her lips is posted on Instagram

A shocking slew of offensive comments appeared online after a make-up company posted a photograph of a black model's lips.
The MAC Cosmetics Instagram page was bombarded after the international brand posted a picture of Ugandan-born Aamito Lagum, 23, sporting one of their lipsticks.
The backstage photograph of Aamito - winner of Africa's Next Top Model - was taken during New York Fashion Week and posted on the brand's social media.
The backstage photo, above, was taken during New York Fashion Week and posted to the brand's social media. One likened the 23-year-old model's pout to 'fish lips'. Another wrote: 'Black women will never be as beautiful as white women'
It wasn't long before a number of Instagram users began commenting on the image.
One said: 'Holy n***** lips, Batman! What colour is this called?...Grape Drank?'

This extract was taken from the daily mail and it caught my eye by the heading as it contains clear racism. This article shocked me as i thought that this generation had improved and overcome racial differences. The comments made on this picture where very offensive and portrayed very openly in the media which i think is disgraceful. However many other viewers have since commented praising Aamito for her beauty, and Aamito has responded by to the hate by continuing to be a successful model and not taking any of the comments personally. It just shows us that this generation has not come as far as it is made out to be and the media plays a key part in this.
